The first night in RM.

We see a small mountain and Erika questions me about my idea to climb it. Once we reach the top and the children there start to warm up to us, we realize that it was worth it. Gravel can be interesting if you have the right company. Just below us we can see the vast and frozen Yukon. Before the end of the day, we decide to hike up the large hill behind the village and take a look. The village looks blue now that the sun has gone down.

  2. Because of the wind, it was very cold the day we got in. In maybe two minutes I was on the verge of frostbite on my hands when we landed and I scrambled to put on my overalls. Today was much warmer but it is still around zero probably. Just a guess.

  3. I think it is great that you are jumping right in and teaching! I LOVE the photos of the village and the notes about what you packed. Any further suggestions on packing for those of us that have to do it yet?

  4. What to pack is a crap shoot. Find out all you can about where you are staying. We weren't sure about showers or anything. I almost didn't bring my insulated overalls and that would have been a disaster. This is the only thing that I can stress, prepare for cold weather so that if it happens you can still venture around the village. I heard rumors about villages with bad water so I brought a water filter. I didn't need it--the water on tap is great! This probably isn't the case with all villages. Bring the essentials and possibly some money. Oh yeah, Frontier allows 50 pounds before added charge. Also, we were able to bring one carry-on and stow it with the cargo as we boarded the plane.
